Is Larimar ”The Blue stone of Atlantis” ”The Dolphin Stone” ?
Maybe the main question is: Did Atlanis exist?
There are two of Plato’s dialogues in which Atlantis is mentioned, Timaeus and Critias. The dialogues are conversations between Socrates, Hermocrates, Timeaus, and Critias. Critias the elder is the one who related the story of Atlantis to the Critias of the dialogues. Critias the elder was told the story by Dropides (Critias’ great grandfather) who recieved it from Solon (638-559 BC), who heard it from an Egyptian priest.
In part, it reads:
“Many great and wonderful deeds are recorded of your state in our histories. But one of them exceeds all the rest in greatness and valour. For these histories tell of a mighty power which unprovoked made an expedition against the whole of Europe and Asia, and to which your city put an end. This power came forth out of the Atlantic Ocean, for in those days the Atlantic was navigable; and there was an island situated in front of the straits which are by you called the Pillars of Heracles; the island was larger than Libya and Asia put together, and was the way to other islands, and from these you might pass to the whole of the opposite continent which surrounded the true ocean; for this sea which is within the Straits of Heracles is only a harbour, having a narrow entrance, but that other is a real sea, and the surrounding land may be most truly called a boundless continent.
Now in this island of Atlantis there was a great and wonderful empire which had rule over the whole island and several others, and over parts of the continent, and, furthermore, the men of Atlantis had subjected the parts of Libya within the columns of Heracles as far as Egypt, and of Europe as far as Tyrrhenia. This vast power, gathered into one, endeavoured to subdue at a blow our country and yours and the whole of the region within the straits; and then, Solon, your country shone forth, in the excellence of her virtue and strength, among all mankind. She was pre-eminent in courage and military skill, and was the leader of the Hellenes. And when the rest fell off from her, being compelled to stand alone, after having undergone the very extremity of danger, she defeated and triumphed over the invaders, and preserved from slavery those who were not yet subjugated, and generously liberated all the rest of us who dwell within the pillars.
But afterwards there occurred violent earthquakes and floods; and in a single day and night of misfortune all your warlike men in a body sank into the earth, and the island of Atlantis in like manner disappeared in the depths of the sea. For which reason the sea in those parts is impassable and impenetrable, because there is a shoal of mud in the way; and this was caused by the subsidence of the island.”
Thera or Santorini, Britain and Ireland, New Orleans and the coast of Florida, Carnac in France, Tantalis on the south coast of Turkey, also Tiahuanaco near Lake Titicaca in Peru and the Antarctica have all been considered to be the old Atlantis.
Atlantis in the Caribbean?
A very strong defender that part of Atlantis could be found in the Caribbean was the psychic Edgar Cayce (1877 – 1945) and for this reason many look at La Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic) as a remnant of sunken Atlantis. Cayce predicted that on one of the Caribbean islands a blue stone of Atlantean origin would be found with extraordinary healing attributes. In 1974 the Larimar was found in the Dominican Republic. In metaphysical circles this colored gemstone is said to have healing powers.

What about the dolphins?
Since Atlantis was sorrounded by the sea, Poseidon was the main deity of the island-state. In his temple, there was an image of the god standing in a chariot drawn by six winged horses, and touching the roof with his head; he was surrounded by a hundred Nereids (sea-nymphs), riding on dolphins.
Some even believe that in the ancient lost city of Atlantis people could talk with the dolphins. Hence, the dolphins came to be the symbol of Atlantis.
Whether the story of Atlantis is a legend or just another example in Plato’s metaphorical philosophy, or if there is some truth to it, we cannot assert. You might want to do some research on your own and and decide for yourself.
Larimar or Amber?
But here come some other interesting facts: According to the Greek Phaethon Story by Ovid, Phaethon, a son of Helios, the sun, convinced his father to allow him to drive the chariot of the sun through the heavens for a day, he erred too close to the earth, scorching it. To save the earth, Zeus struck Phaethon with a thunderbolt and he died, plunging out of the sky. His mother and sister turned into trees in their grief but still mourned him. Their tears, dried by the sun, are amber.
“As when the palsied universe aghast
Lay… mute and still,
When drove, so poets sing, the Sun-born youth
Devious through Heaven’s affrighted signs his sire’s
Ill-granted chariot. Him the Thunderer hurled
From the empyrean headlong to the gulf
Of thee half-parched Eridanus, where weep
Even now the sister trees their amber tears
O’er Phaeton untimely dead.”
The Greeks called amber ‘elektron’ (sun-made)…
Another ancient writer, Nicias, said that amber was the juice or essence of the setting sun congealed in the sea and cast up on the shore. Homer mentions amber jewelry and not Larimar- earrings and a necklace of amber beads – as a princely gift in the Odyssey. Aristotle, Theophrastus, Tacitus, and Strabo speak about it in their literature. Pliny the Elder wrote a natural history treatise clarifying some doubts about amber origins.
And what about Plato?
According to Critias, recorded by Plato, the whole citadel of Atlantis, “flashed with the red light of orichalcum.” According to some theories, this was a special metal, but others think it was amber. (see: ‘The Atlantis of the North’). The interior walls, pillars and floors of the temple were completely covered in orichalcum. (Does this remind us of the famous ‘Amber Room’?) In the center of the temple stood a pillar of orichalcum, on which the laws of Poseidon and records of the first princes after Poseidon were inscribed. (Crit. 116–119) There also was a supply of orichalcum beneath Atlantis from which the city received it’s energy.
Remember, again, the Greek word for amber is “electron”. By chance? We don’t know. But we know that amber is found in the Dominican Republic, which is according to some the visible part of sunken Atlantis. And, to top this off: We have another mysterious blue stone from the Dominican Republic that intrigues the world: Blue Amber.
Yes, BLUE amber.
Please use the comment to the left to find out more about the origin of Blue Amber.
And let me ask the question differently now: Is Blue Amber the lost Blue Stone of Atlantis?
