The Origin
Larimar and Amber become to be the real treasures of "La Hispaniola", the island shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
This island many times in the past experienced the outbrake of volcanos, probably its very creation depended on it.
All the amber found here has a more or less blue reflection under
ultra violet light. Some of the amber even reflects the UV rays of the sun and of other light sources.
One theory links the rare properties Dominican amber to the occurrence of volcanic ash or dust which was present when the
resin was first pressed out from hymenaea protera millions of years ago.
Another suggests that due to volcanic activity hot lava must have flown over those areas where amber
was buried under ground. Experiments have shown that a changes of color occur when normal amber is heated up.
This might be the reason for the rare colors of Dominican Amber. Dominican Amber has been "color enhanced" and "autoclaved"
by nature. It is rare, natural amber in all the meaning of the words. (More information at

And what about the blue pectolite?
The pectolite or "ratholite", is an acid silicate hydrate of calcium and sodium.
It can be can found in Northamerica, Europe and in India, among others, wherever there was volcanic activity.
Nevertheless, it seems that one volcanic complex about 10 kilometers southwest of the city of Barahona, in the south-western
region of the
Dominican Republic is the only one where copper was present in such a strong concentration that it influenced the color.
No other blue or greenish pectolite has be found anywhere else so far. The possibility of mining the blue stone first
was metioned in an official document at the beginning of the last century but then forgotten. The blue pectolite was re-discovered
in 1974 at the stony shores of Barahona, erroneously considered to come from the sea.
From then on, it it began to be mined and triumphantly travel
around the world as the "Dominican Turquoise".
Many consider the blue Larimar the stone of
Atlantis, some use it for healing or other
purposes. But is it? Judge for yourself.
